Today we made cardamom spice sugar scrub, therapeutic bath salts, and delicious lotion bars! The kitchen was messy! Then it got cleaned...then it got messy...cleaned...and one last project wrecked it for the night:
Valentine's Day body butter bars!
One cup beeswax (I like the natural beeswax from mountain rose herbs ) But you can also get the white refined food grade variety at Whole Foods.
One cup Shea butter (or any butter of your choice, cocoa, mango, etc...)
One cup coconut oil (or any beneficial body oil)
(I only had a half cup of coconut oil, so I used sweet almond oil too)
Put these ingredients into a double boiler or a diy melting device pictured below (assembled from a pyrex 4 cup measuring cup and a sauce pan). Fill the pot half way up with water and put it over med- high heat with the glass container full butters, oils, and beeswax until the mixture melts together. I didn't want to turn it up too high, so the whole process took about 10 min. Pay close attention to the melting process. As the water begins to boil you risk water splashing into the mixture; ruining the batch. Water and oil...haha.
I added some food grade shimmer powder to the silicone molds first. Holiday fun!
Pour the melted mixture of butters, oils, and wax into the prepared mold.
As the bars cool they get lighter in color and start to firm up... especially
here where it's below freezing... don't worry my house is usually kept around 69 in the winter and a tad warmer than that in the summer and these bars do fine. Whew!
They pop right out of their mold :) after sitting 12 hours.
Finished bars! All ready to give out on Valentine's Day!
